Density Laboratory
Purpose: This lab assignment has two purposes. The primary purpose is to learn correct procedure for using volumetric glassware and balances. The secondary purpose is to show how the instruments used affect the precision of measurements and the significant figure reported.
Equipment Buret, Pipet(s) Volumetric Flasks Graduated cylinders.
Triple beam balance Centigram balance Analytical Balance Beakers
Procedure
1. Determine the mass of an empty container.
2. Use a piece of glassware to deliver or fill the container with water.
3. Measure the mass of water and container

Calculations: Determine the density of each of the samples.(Use the appropriate significant figures.)
Conclusion Comment on the precision of the various instruments used. How would you decide which instrument to use? What are the strengths and weaknesses of the various instruments?
